- 85% of the Fortune 500 Companies have implemented SharePoint Online.
- In 2016, usage of SharePoint has increased by 90%, content management by over 300% and 10 million SharePoint were sites created.
- Increase in organizations choosing hybrid SharePoint deployments
What are the new updates?
We are super excited about the new updates for SharePoint. This will enhance enterprise level SharePoint environment as well as its associated technologies.
#1. The Personalized Search Capability
The personalized search capability uses Microsoft Graph and its AI features for building search results to queries easily.
When users enter a keyword to the search box, they will be able to see list of recent files, related content sites and news and the direct results for the query. They will also be able to see their interests, skills, projects etc. that are related to the query.
#2. Bringing in Business Processes
Microsoft PowerApps users will be able to generate customer forms into SharePoint library or lists to support organizational and team processes.
This will make Microsoft SharePoint and Workflow even more tough. The workflows help create automated workflows between services and applications.
There are more details to be revealed, hopefully we will learn more during Microsoft Ignite on September 25, 2017 in Orlando, Florida.
Approval flows, built in to SharePoint, send a rich, actionable email message.
#3. OneDrive for Business Files Update
OneDrive for Business is Microsoft’s file share and sync application that can be used within/outside organizations. Deep integration between O365 and OneDrive helps users access their files irrespective of the devices they are working on.
The new feature is the ability to share files via File Explorer on Windows or Mac. Users will be able to share files to everyone or specific people by generating a link that allows the desired users to view/access files. The OneDrive sharing feature works well on both Windows 7 and 10.
Users will also be able to add an expiration date and restrict access to the content in a timely manner.
Share files and folders with colleagues inside and outside your organization directly from File Explorer on Windows 10 and Windows 7.
Share files and folders with colleagues inside and outside your organization directly from Finder on Mac.
#4. Team Site Connection
A couple of months back, Microsoft connected SharePoint Team Sites with Office 365 Services and Groups. This year, it’s gone to advanced levels by connecting existing SharePoint sites with O365 Groups. Now users will be able to add SharePoint pages as tabs within Microsoft Team Sites – like an extension of the current feature for adding tabs in documents.
#5. Communication Sites
Microsoft has introduced SharePoint communication sites which are dynamic sites that work on Windows, Macintosh, mobile browsers and even our very own SharePoint app (Android and iOS).
The smaller group conversations of the team sites will move to the communication sites and the team sites will be shown across the organization. Because it is connected via SharePoint Online, the content will show on the SharePoint home screen for users across both web and mobile interfaces.
Those are just some of the high-level features on the way. We’re very excited about the changes coming to Office 365 and SharePoint. We’ll update you again with details from the Ignite session.
